1. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to both:

• the KnowYourFinance iPhone app, and
• the KnowYourFinance website at knowyourfinance.org.

The app and website do not operate in exactly the same way. The app is designed around on-device processing for personal finance inputs. The website is a public publishing surface and may use cookies, basic hosting logs, and advertising technology.

2. How the iPhone App Handles Data

Our core design goal for the app is simple: your financial calculations and saved scenarios should not need to travel to our servers.

• On-device processing: core calculations run locally on your iPhone.
• Local storage: saved entries, preferences, and scenarios are intended to stay in local app storage.
• No account requirement: the app's core tools do not require registration with KnowYourFinance.
• No app cloud sync: this version does not offer a CloudKit or iCloud sync setting. Device backups and files you choose to save through Apple services are separate from app sync.

Camera access is optional for receipt scanning, with recognition performed on-device. Notifications are optional for reminders. Core manual records and calculations do not require camera, contacts, SMS or email-account access.

Online content: fresh card, lounge and article information, images and external links require internet access. Content requests may expose technical information such as an IP address and the requested resource to hosting and delivery providers. This policy does not establish a fixed retention period for that request information.

Exports and backup: you choose where to save or share exported reports and Finance Backup files. Finance Backup is a supported restore format and contains sensitive, unencrypted financial records. Data reports are separate and cannot restore the app. Copies shared outside the app are handled by the destination you select.

Offline use: manual records and core calculations can be used offline. Reading an article offline depends on having its full content saved. The app is not completely offline.

3. What the Website May Collect Automatically

Like most websites, knowyourfinance.org may process limited technical data automatically when you browse pages. This can include:

• IP address
• browser and device information
• referrer information
• requested pages and timestamps
• cookies or similar storage used for security, preferences, or advertising

This information may be processed by our hosting providers, content delivery tools, and advertising partners in order to deliver pages, keep the site secure, and serve or measure ads.

4. Advertising, Cookies, and Google AdSense

The website may use Google AdSense or related Google advertising products to serve ads. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies to serve, limit, personalize, or measure advertising, subject to applicable law and consent requirements.

Depending on your location, you may be shown a consent prompt before non-essential advertising cookies are used. You can also manage browser cookies through your browser settings, and Google provides additional controls through its ad settings and partner-site disclosures.

• App vs website: the iPhone app may remain ad-free while the public website may display ads.
• No sale of calculator inputs: we do not sell your app-entered personal finance calculations as a product.
• Ad disclosure: if the website serves ads, cookies or similar technologies may be involved.

5. Third-Party Services

Depending on the surface you use, KnowYourFinance may rely on third parties such as:

• Apple: App Store distribution, device infrastructure, device backups and services you choose to use. These are separate from an app cloud-sync feature.
• Hosting and delivery providers: to serve website pages securely and reliably.
• Google AdSense and related advertising services: when ads are displayed on the website.

Each third party operates under its own terms and privacy documentation.

6. What We Do Not Ask For

• We do not require you to create a KnowYourFinance account to read articles.
• We do not require you to submit personal financial data to our servers to use the app's core calculators.
• We do not request access to unrelated phone permissions for core finance tools.

7. Your Choices

• Browser cookies: you can block or clear cookies through your browser settings.
• Advertising choices: where applicable, you can manage ad preferences or decline consent through supported consent tools.
• Local app data: use Settings > Delete All App Data to remove local app records. Copies you exported or saved in other services must be managed separately.
• Backups and saved files: manage device backups and any files you chose to save through the relevant Apple or third-party service. This version does not offer app cloud sync.

8. Children's Privacy

KnowYourFinance is intended as a general educational finance product. We do not knowingly collect children's personal financial information through a KnowYourFinance account system because the core app and website do not require such an account for normal use.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the product, website, ad stack, or legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
